Come, sweet snow Let me go, I am warm now I can't have what I had before Come, sweet snow Let me go, to be home now I can't hold this old heart any more Come, sweet babe Cross the wind to be my rhyme I only loved one before Come, sweet babe I may wait for a lifetime Just to hold you in my arms once more All is now but I must wait in then I'll see her fall from me again There's too much nothing in tomorrow So today I make to go I can't suffer for this question lord Which side should I show When it's such a shame to fall apart Such a shame to lie Such a shame to call it art And such a shame to die singin' Come, sweet snow Let me go, I am warm now I can't have what I had before Come, sweet snow Let me go, to be home now I can't hold this old heart any more All is now but I must wait in then I'll see her fall from me again

Dark Sky 03:30
When your heart goes out to the stork that delivered you And the dark sky over your island appeals to you Then you can't untwist what you thought was true 'Cause your love's too close to see you through Well do you call it foe or do you call it friend This dream of dying at the end Do you curse at all the time you spend Just 'a wishing old love back again And when you arrive and decide to be beside yourself May no one lay you down And when you do find to be kind's opened a real wealth May no one steal your crown Just say what I see come to life for me Well no one's going to find me now 'Cause I done escaped but I don't know how I split to tombstone from the grave And make the ghost pay my way And when you arrive and decide to be beside yourself May no one lay you down And when you do find to be kind's opened a real wealth May no one steal your crown Just say what I see come to life for me Darlin' my love what you do to me I can't explain Just don't know when I come back to you Won't be the same When your heart goes out to the stork that delivered you And the dark sky over your island appeals to you Then you can't untwist what you thought was true 'Cause your love's too close to see you through You trip so hard and the floor falls through And you can't call home what you come back too

Dharma Rose 04:07
My old love, over me She holds me down, and lets me see All my life, and all my needs Pale before her mysteries She says, boy you've been, gone so long And while you were, I carried on I fell in love, and it changed my world You'll never know the same old girl She sits me down, with the same old eyes That can see right through, the same old lies Sayin' I forgive, the child in you 'Cause there's nothin' else, that I can do I'll give you part of what I found But don't be fooled, I won't stick 'round There's a whole wide world to take your place And I see this truth clear on her face She turns to me, then turns away Holds the silence in just her way 'Fore she lets me go from all her mind Beyond the light that left her blind But in her very last smiling sigh There's a sweet release that let's me by The smallest thing inside her gives And it's just enough to let us live I love her, love her I love her, love her My old love, over me She holds me down, and lets me see All my life, and all my needs Pale before her mysteries

babe that's only half my answer but you can't hear for what you're after's filled your head with all they've said 'bout how to see right through i'm born in bloom but not to stay as up in smoke i rise to fade away my dark effect and shadow clear are humbled under all my mind in fear our two thrones now turned away yours through the night, mine through the day as you break in two what makes me true and give it to the blue i'm born in bloom but not to stay as up in smoke i rise to fade away my dark effect and shadow clear are humbled under all my mind in fear

I live alone without time I'd call it a home, but it's not mine I want to say I only want to be there I want to say I'll give this up for you I want to save the ghost in me that don't care What anybody throws on what I do Oh, it's so strung out This love in doubt of you I draw a line that you dance 'cross and I'd call it a sign, but at what cost I want to say there's something for me out there That'll never catch the wind that brought me you But I just can't see it comin' out of nowhere This arrow that'll pierce me straight and true Oh, it's so strung out Yeah, it's so strung out This love in doubt of you I make a stand, and you bow down I offer my hand, and you turn 'round I only want to make up what we're missing But these questions fill my mind with what you do You only offer answers when I'm kissing From the heart in me that just don't care what's true Oh, it's so strung out This love in doubt of you

Mara 02:30
Don't say in your way that I'll be there 'Cause I'm fine and this time I'm nowhere I'm comin' off a feeling of going under So please watch yourself I'm comin' to a feelin' of knowing wonder and no, it's no one else I was open, but you're just the same Such was broken, please don't call my name I'm comin' off a feeling of going under So please watch yourself I'm comin' to a feelin' of knowing wonder and no, it's no one else But oh how I see you change before me Oh, how I see you come to be

Mary 02:31
What if I was only made to see what you're built to hold for me? What if I could only understand if I offered you my empty hands? Now, Mary, your sons were broken but what else could they be The right kind in the wrong time in a twenty-odd century What if I could only free my mind if I let myself go truly blind? What if I could only fake the song that made me seem more right than wrong? Oh, Mary, my life was broken but what else could they be I'm the right kind in the wrong time in a twenty-odd century Now I'm steeped in such confusion and I see it only for you What if I could break the one machine that ties my heart to both our dreams? What if I could not get past the thought that takes these wings to all I'm not? Oh, Mary, your sons were broken but what else could they be The right kind in the wrong time in a twenty-odd century
8.
What do you do, what do you feel, what do you write and how do you deal when it all comes back to you? What do you think, what do you know, who do you ask, where do you go when it all comes back to you? There's a change that walks on down the line and a change that shines and blinds your mind and a change that feels just like old times when I'm only holding you What do you like, what do you name, what do you fight, and what do you blame when it all comes back to you? What do you start, what do you end, what do you buy back, what do you bend when it all comes back to you? There are times when I'm alone and I look out beyond and feel alright Through all these homes and all these lives I'm only holding you 'Cause even freedom wears me down from sleeping floors about the town from chains and days I weave your crown when I'm only holding you So what do you change, what do you turn, what do you undo, and what do you learn when it all comes back to you? What do you love, what do you see, what do you forgive, and how can it be that it all comes back to you? Yes, all my pain has served me well of hope and fear my troubles tell it's a hardened claim that rings the bell when I'm only holding you

The Winter 03:10
Cold, moon-dyed soul and the feeling rolled I'm the rising tide in the wake of winter With all I've seen of the prism's heartbreak stream I will find a life in the way of the river bend And I'm running again and again to get by the river, run by the river and I'm running again and again to get by the winter, by by the winter I'll wait my turn to live and learn as I ride inside the weight of the river When peace don't flow for the lustless soul the moral know the way the good get to quiver then And I'm running again and again to get by the river, run by the river and I'm running again and again to get by the winter, by by the winter I will come to be a wave unknowin' as I have all but seen the grave I've chosen I come by the river to learn how to pray and to lose myself and to find myself Living a dream with an ancient soul the winter ain't so cold ...moon-dyed soul and the feeling rolled I'm the rising tide in the wake of winter With all I've seen of the prism's heartbreak stream I will find a life in the way of the river bend

about

This album was recorded up at a cabin in the interior of British Columbia last fall. It is the first record that I have made together with my great friend and producer Jarett Holmes that I feel has managed to capture a compelling degree of raw sincerity.
The tracks are all performed live-off-the-floor and without accompaniment, with minimal editing. The choice of a bare aesthetic was deliberate. In presenting the songs with just guitar and vocal, I hoped to create a space in which the listener would be able to most directly witness--and perhaps even resonate with--the hues of vulnerability and loss that glow softly at the heart of this collection of songs.
I offer the Winter Letters to you now with warm feelings of gratitude. Happy listening.
